Alexis Pratsides
Alexis Pratsides is the founder and CEO of KK London (Designs & Fashion) Limited, the company behind KK Automotive Art. He writes the Formula 1 race reviews and the classic car articles on this site, and he runs the production side of the business.
The technical side
Alexis came to this from software rather than from retail. That is the half of the business he still runs: the pipeline that takes a finished piece of artwork and turns it into a print file cut for one specific device.
It is unglamorous work and it is the thing that decides whether a case looks right in your hand. Every camera opening in the range is measured against that phone's own dimensions rather than scaled from a neighbouring model, because a cut-out that is two millimetres out is visible from across a room. The same applies to a mug wrap and to the bleed on a framed print. When Apple ships a new iPhone, the work is re-measured for that body rather than assumed.
It is also why the range can be made to order. Nothing here is printed in advance and boxed until somebody wants one. Your case, mug or print is made after you order it, for the exact device or frame size you chose, which means a design can join the range the week it is drawn.
The cars
The interest in cars came a long time before the business did. KK Automotive Art exists because that interest and the technical work turned out to be the same problem: automotive art that had been drawn properly was easy to find, and automotive art that had been reproduced properly was not. Most of what was on the market was a manufacturer's logo printed on a generic import.
That is the gap the company was set up to close, and it is why so much of the effort goes into colour profiling and print reproduction rather than into licensing more logos.
What he writes here
Alexis writes the race reviews that appear on the F1 blog every Monday through the season, the season previews, and the classic car articles. The race reviews are written from watching the race, not assembled from press releases, which is why they carry an opinion about what happened rather than only a list of results.
